Better Pool Cleaning and Efficiency
Skimmer baskets are what help keep your pool clean and free of debris. When a basket fills up, you will need to clean it, or else it will no longer be efficient at keeping the pool clean. In addition to this, a clogged basket can damage the pool pump.
Cleaning the basket is actually quite simple in practice as long as you keep a few things in mind, such as examining the skimmer thoroughly to check for damage. A cracked basket will also risk damage to the pump and the filter system as a whole. Cleaning your skimmers on a weekly basis or as needed, such as after a storm, can help prevent this.
Grab a pail and head over to the first skimmer, removing the lid. If you face trouble with this lid, make sure that there are no screws holding it down. If there are no screws, you may need a rubber mallet to help loosen the cover; the heat of the sun could have caused the cover to swell a little, which would make it difficult to open.
Removing the lid will reveal the skimmer basket; just pull it up from its position and dump the contents into the pail for disposal. Before putting the basket back into its original position, give it a thorough examination to see if there are any cracks in the plastic. If so, then you will need to replace the unit to prevent further damage.
If the skimmer shows no damage and has been cleaned, you will just need to place it right back where you found it. Make sure you clean all of the baskets in the same manner as you did with the first one; some pools can have up to eight of these skimmers surrounding it.
